By looking at this photo you get the sense that
the owner of the phone is not going to see where they are going at night time (especially on the narrow side street)
even though there are some lights on the side.
this gets worse if there are some random person chasing you and you are running away from them.
You could trip over or you could bump into an obstacle if you cannot see where you are going
so it is crucial to have neon outlined map at night time to see what is coming up while you are walking.
Therefore I'm going to design my map like this
